Just around the River Bend ...

Last week when Aunt Ginny was here for a visit we went on a family picnic to a place we love called River Bend. And I learned what family picnics are all about. First, you have to have a lot of food, as you can see in this picture, I'm overwhelmed by all of the food. Actually, I'm just mesmerized by the boats on the water, but it is a funny picture isn't it?
-
The first thing that happens on a picnic is that everybody sets up the food. We had BBQ ribs, potato salad, deviled eggs, veggies, baked beans, different kinds of fruit, chips, etc. It was all very good! I even discovered that I like ribs!
-
Look who is standing around hungry ...
-
We picked up these two old guys on the way and let them have some food too! :)
-
It was fun to do something special while Aunt Ginny was there!
-
After lunch we watched the boats and played some games!
It was an absolutely beautiful day!
-
Gramps and I played hide and seek!
I love to seek, but I don't have the patience to hide!
-

Then we played a traditional family game of croquet.
I discovered that there are lots of fun things to do in this game.
You can run around kicking other people's balls, which gets quite a reaction from the crowd.
You can pull up the wickets and try to move them around to confuse people.
You can also practice fencing with the mallets which is what I am doing here!
-
This is definitely my favorite part of the game, but the grown ups seemed to think it was very important to hit certain balls into certain places. Ompa is the family reigning champion, but this time my Daddy managed to beat him!
-
Then we did a victory dance!
-
And that is how you have a family picnic! I hope that we can have another one soon. I have been practicing my croquet skills! Maybe next time I will be a serious contender!
